Last night we were invited over to a friend's house for dinner. Their little boy is on Ty's soccer team and will soon be on his basketball team as well.
We got to their neighborhood and there was a guard at the entrance. The guy asked our name and when we told him, he knew exactly who we were, where we were going, and what we were going for.
Who the hell are these people?? What kind of friends do we have?? Are they working for the CIA or something?? I mean, I've been to a neighborhood where they have a little guard shack but there's never anyone in there. The most you need is the code to get through the gate. This place had about a dozen flat screen monitors that showed every possible place in the neighborhood. The guard shack itself probably cost more than my whole house!
So, after we got through the entrance, we couldn't believe how huge these houses were. I swear people started locking their doors when they saw us drive through in our 2004 mini van! No one in this area had anything that outdated. They had to think we were from the ghetto.
When we finally arrived at their house we were almost surprised, by this point, that they didn't have a butler taking our coats. It didn't matter that it was unseasonably warm outside and we didn't have coats, but you get my point.
Their house was BEAUTIFUL. Wait, beautiful doesn't even describe it, I don't even know a word to tell you about this place other than HUGE!
The kids got very excited when they saw each other and immediately took off to play. I was a little worried I might never find them again! We made our way into the kitchen where some of the other parents from Ty's soccer team were standing with their mouths wide open.
T.J.'s favorite part of the house was definitely the patio. This thing was an outside living room complete with a kitchen and a flat screen T.V. After a few drinks, T.J. got brave and asked how much the patio ended up costing them. Are you ready for this??
$60,000.00!!!!!
Do you know what I would do with that kind of money?? My patio would be the LAST thing on my list!
Once we got over the shock of the house and the fact it was bigger than our whole neighborhood combined, we had a great time. Nothing is better than being somewhere where the kids could all play and we didn't have to entertain them at all. Susan, the woman who owns the house, even had a baby bed made up for Cade and tons of baby toys for him to play with. The funny thing is, her youngest kid is 6. She just keeps all this stuff around for friends like us who have babies! This woman thinks of EVERYTHING!
The great thing about these friends is that we would have NEVER guessed they lived like this. They are not snobby or think they're better than anyone. They are the nicest people you have ever met.
OK, the whole reason I wrote this is to show off the Turkey Cookies Cody, Laney and I made yesterday afternoon for this particular get-together.
Cody and Laney making some Turkeys
(For those who don't know, Laney is our friend's daughter and since she's in afternoon Kindergarten, she hangs out with us every morning until she goes to school.)

Proud of their work
The finished product
The Turkeys were a huge hit with the kids, and the adults, and Ty has talked me in to making them for his snack day at school next Tuesday. Maybe next time I should think of something that doesn't take quite as long to make!
